Biography

Izzy Cheyne Jones is a Leeds-based emerging artist and recent graduate with a BA  in Fine Art with Contemporary Cultural Theory. Jones has a multi-dimensional practice which coalesces the disciplines of sculpture, drawing, and installation. Her work explores our psychological connection to our surroundings through space and movement by creating gestures and patterns within her sculptures.

During her time as an undergrad, Jones embarked on a study exchange at Melbourne’s Monash University. Here, she developed her interest in working multi-disciplinary fashion. Jones was one of the recent artists whose work was in ‘HOLD’, the 2026 edition of the University of Leeds BA degree show, from which she was awarded the Alan Mohun Memorial Prize as recognition for producing an outstanding body of work.

Statement

Our entanglement with man-made environments,

The fragility of the strongest materials,

Finding chaos in systems we have imposed on ourselves,

Nothing human is perfect,

- which makes it perfect

Through creating, I reflect how we are 

'No longer and not yet' 

As an artist, I am a sculptor, drawer and city dweller. My practice draws from the field of psychogeography and the electricity I feel from my urban surroundings. Through sculptures, which are staged spatially to entice a mobile audience, I propose how art can further our psychological and emotional relationship with our built environment. In my practice, I use materials which engage in the binary of the utilitarian and the ornamental to explore the emotional dimension of architecture. I am primarily drawn to working within the expanded field of sculpture, drawing influences from interdisciplinary methods such as conceptual drawing or painting practice. Gesture and form are central to how I articulate myself within my work.
